The Story
While Ravana and his brother Kumbhakarna revelled in power, Vibheeshana spent his life in study and worship of Vishnu, known as the wisest and most devout of the rakshasa princes. When Sita was abducted, he was the one who begged Ravana to return her and make peace.
Ravana refused, and even kicked his brother out of the court. Vibheeshana then went to Rama's camp, offered his allegiance to dharma, and received the embrace of the very man his family had wronged — a moment of grace that defines the Ramayana's moral depth.
In the final battle, Vibheeshana's counsel proved vital — it was his knowledge of Ravana's secrets that helped Rama end the war. When Ravana fell, Vibheeshana mourned his brother and gave him a king's funeral, and Rama crowned him ruler of Lanka.
