The Story
Born in 1867, Nageswara Rao was drawn to journalism and the cause of the Telugu language in his youth. In 1908 he founded the Andhra Patrika, the great Telugu newspaper, which became the voice of the people and of the national movement, and his press grew into one of the largest in the land.
He built his newspaper into an institution: the Andhra Patrika carried the message of the freedom movement to every Telugu home, and its founder's energy built the modern press of the language. He was also an industrialist whose enterprises gave work to the people, and a worker for the education and progress of Andhra.
He died in 1938, honoured as one of the makers of modern Andhra. His press and his work transformed the Telugu land, and his name remains one of the greatest in the modern history of the language.
