The Story
Born in 1837, Siddharoodha was a wandering seeker in his youth who studied the scriptures and the philosophies of the land before settling at Hubballi, where he spent the rest of his long life. His teaching was the Advaita of the Upanishads — the oneness of the self and the supreme — taught in the language of the people.
His ashram at Hubballi became a centre of learning and devotion, drawing disciples and seekers from every caste and community. He taught that all religions are paths to the one truth, and he practised what he taught, welcoming all and refusing to recognise any barrier of caste or creed.
He lived to the great age of ninety-three, dying in 1930. His ashram continues to teach, and his memory is honoured across Karnataka as one of the most beloved and inclusive saints of the modern age.
