The Story
Born in 1887, Kasturi Srinivasan was a member of the family that owned The Hindu, the great newspaper of the South founded by G. Subramania Iyer. He rose through the paper and became its editor, guiding it through the most important decades of the nation's history.
Under his editorship The Hindu maintained the independence and integrity that made it one of the world's most respected newspapers. He steered the paper through the freedom struggle and the first years of independence, and his editorials were read with respect across the country.
He died in 1959, honoured as one of the greatest editors of Indian journalism. The Hindu, under his hand and his family's care, grew into one of the great institutions of the nation, and his name is remembered in the history of the Indian press.
