The Story
The Malnad — the wet hill country of Karnataka — was a land of small Nayaka chieftains and strong hill forts, of which Keladi was the greatest. Echchama Nayaka belonged to this world of hill warriors, whose alliances and rivalries shaped the politics of the region in the age of the Nayakas.
The traditions that remember him place him in the service and wars of the Keladi kingdom, a loyal and formidable warrior whose knowledge of the hills made him a valuable commander in the region's campaigns against the neighbouring powers, including the sultanates of the coast and the Bijapur kingdom.
