The Story
Born in Karnataka in 1901, Dinakar Desai was drawn to the national movement in his youth and joined the campaigns of the Congress — the non-cooperation, civil disobedience, and Quit India movements. He organised the people of his region for freedom and suffered imprisonment for the cause.
His work was not limited to politics: he devoted himself to social service, working for the uplift of the villages, for education, and for the welfare of the poor. He served in the constructive programmes of the movement and continued this service after independence.
He died in 1982, remembered across Karnataka as a complete servant of the nation — a man who fought for freedom and then spent the rest of his life serving the people he had helped to free.
